PepprHQ, a SaaS company that allows owners of coffee shops, bars and restaurants to create a branded, low cost app for customers to pre-order and pay without having to take their wallet out of their pockets.
The challenge
With today's busy lifestyles, time is often of the essence. People want to get their coffee as quickly and frictionless as possible in order to continue their day...
The process
AlphaWith "client 0" confirmed, a group of alpha testers were put together. This group consisted of about 20 people in 3 different coffee shop locations.
The alpha was designed and built as quickly as possible to begin getting feedback to plan the next steps such as user journeys, features and a redesign.
This design consisted of a list view of the coffeeshops closest to you and a pay button on the home screen. Everything else was placed in the menu as it was the fastest way to create the features before deciding where everything should be placed.
BetaAfter conducting stakeholder, staff and customer interviews, user testing and using built-in analytics tracking, a set of user journeys and key features were identified.
The design placed all options on the home screen and removed the need for a menu. This was to test which features people used most and to test if a menu was necessary.
This was also testing the need for a burger button as they have been shown to not be the greatest form of navigation. The downside to this is it increases the cognitive load on the user and made the screen busy. The group of alpha testers had now become a group of beta testers with the number of people increasing to around 50 users.
LaunchAfter more interviews and user testing the final design was agreed upon for initial launch. It was determined that it was better to have a menu and only surface the three closest cafes, the preorder option, check in, the balance and loyalty cards.
The free space was then used for company promotions.
The outcome
A customisable user interface that allows coffeeshops to have their own branded app for customers. With features such as prepaid wallets, preorder and loyalty cards, it made the task of getting a coffee much faster for those who are on the go.
